KGW crystal has two large Raman modes related to pump polarization, located at 768 cm ⁻¹ and 901 cm ⁻¹, respectively. This means that when the pump light is irradiated onto the KGW crystal, there will be a frequency shift of Stokes light and anti Stokes light, corresponding to the frequencies of these two Raman modes. This characteristic enables KGW crystals to convert the frequency of pump light to a specific Raman shift frequency, thereby achieving laser frequency conversion and expansion. The relatively wide Raman linewidth means that the crystal can cover a certain range of frequencies during Raman conversion, which is beneficial for achieving broadband frequency conversion and spectral extension.
